New Partnership
Logo for ARC Academy

We are excited to have entered into a new partnership with ARC Academy. There have been many talks and meetings with ARC over the past months and unfortunately the pandemic has affected the planned timescales we had originally envisaged.

Briefly ARC Academy is a leading provider of training, learning and development solutions. As an approved Apprenticeship and NVQ Training Provider, ARC Academy has been delivering Apprenticeships for 9 years across England and Wales to over 20,000 individuals with a client list to include leading national companies across both Construction and Rail Industries.

The initial idea has been to allow the Navigation site to be a training ground for the apprentices. The difference being that in other scenarios the work completed is torn down, removed or dismantled ready for the next “team” of apprentices. In our case the idea is to allow the apprentices to carry out work as part of their training BUT TO ALLOW THE FINISHED PRODUCT TO REMAIN IN SITU FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE NAVIGATION INFRASTRUCTURE.
ARC Apprentices

The project started on the 22nd February 2021 and ARC have recruited 8 local apprentices, sponsored by their employers, to undertake a 12 week basic ground works training programme
They plan to be on site on Mondays and Tuesdays so this programme we will have the benefit of  up to 192 man-days work (this group is all boys but the scheme  is also open to girls). After the 12 weeks they return to their employer and ARC will then consider whether there is enough demand to organise another programme.

The picture above shows the first “intake” of  ARC apprentices and their trainers on the 22nd February
UPDATE - 16th March 2021
The apprentices have now started to repair and reinstate the steps that lead to the "Pay Office" on the upper level. The good weather is certainly helping and progress is being made.
The following are a few more pictures of the team in action and the work being carried out. It is also pleasing to see that a young lady has joined the group, proving that this type of work and apprenticeships are open to all.
